چکیده

1 Abstract — It is shown that the limited-diffraction Bessel beam of order zero can be generated by a transducer with equal-area division of elements and with a fixed prefocus, i.e. conventional transducers used in medical imaging equipment. The element division implies that the scaling parameter must be chosen to contain the first lobe of the Bessel function in the first element. In addition the prefocus must be such that the array is steerable to infinite depth. Examples of low-(3.5 MHz) and high-frequency (20 MHz) arrays are shown where the approximate Bessel beam compares favorably with a spherically focused beam with a fixed focus. The main advantages are a sharper nearfield and a more uniform beamwidth.

Limited Diffraction Maps for Pulsed Wave Annular Arrays

A procedure is provided for decomposing the linear field of flat pulsed wave annular arrays into an equivalent set of known limited diffraction Bessel beams. Each Bessel beam propagates with known characteristics, enabling good insight into the propagation of annular fields to be obtained. Numerical examples are given in the context of a 10-ring annular array operating at a central frequency of...

Compact Angular Support Beams for Space-invariant Vector Flow Mapping

In this work, we deene a special class of compact angular spectrum beams (CASBs) that can be used to provide space-invariant estimation of the velocity vector from a single coplanar aperture. By space-invariance we mean both range and azimuth ow shift-invariance of velocity estimation. We analytically show that some of the non-diiractive beams, e.g., Bessel beams, are sub-classes of CASBs. We s...

Bessel and annular beams for materials processing

Non-Gaussian beam profiles such as Bessel or annular beams enable novel approaches to modifying materials through laser-based processing. In this review paper, properties, generation methods and emerging applications for nonconventional beam shapes are discussed, including Bessel, annular, and vortex beams. These intensity profiles have important implications in a number of technologically rele...

Theory and experiment of Fourier-Bessel field calculation and tuning of a pulsed wave annular array.

A one-dimensional (1D) Fourier-Bessel series method for computing and tuning (beamforming) the linear lossless field of flat pulsed wave annular arrays is developed and supported with both numerical simulation and experimental verification. The technique represents a new method for modeling and tuning the propagated field by linking the quantized surface pressure profile to a known set of limit...

Generation of Wavelength-independent Sub-wavelength Bessel Beams using Metasurfaces

Bessel beams are of great interest due to their unique non-diffractive properties. Using a conical prism or an objective paired with an annular aperture are two typical approaches to generating zeroth order Bessel beams. However, the former approach has a limited numerical aperture (NA), and the latter suffers from low efficiency since most of the incident light is blocked by the aperture. Furt...
